[CSW] -2.6- The co-director of [REC] and [REC] 2 is back for this slightly above average entry in the much admired horror series. Though this one is nowhere near as good as the first two, it doesn't make the same mistakes as the run-of-the-mill [REC] 3. However, one similarity to the third one is that the found footage angle is also abandoned here, and I'm still not convinced that this was a good idea. The movie tries to tie the previous installments together by having medical personnel bring the survivors of [REC] 2 and [REC] 3 on board a large ship for unknown and possibly nefarious reasons. I thought that it was entertaining, appropriately gory and fairly exciting. The final twenty minutes or so generate some good, old-fashioned white-knuckle suspense. But, but, but....The film is just an okay, conventional, safe and well made "infected" horror movie. That undefinable pizzazz that made the first two installments so memorable is long gone. I was never bored by [REC] 4, but I'm sorry to say that I believe the [REC] series may finally have run out of steam.
